Inner Wilderness is the latest album from Canadian multi-instrumentalist Jill Peacock. The entire album was recorded in one afternoon studio session during the pandemic at Pinch Studios in New York. The record is a departure from her previous meticulously produced nu-soul albums since these songs were recorded in one take with very minimal editing and therefore offer a very intimate live sound. Inner Wilderness has a sense of warmth and peace throughout, despite being riddled with themes of distance, loss, heartache and nostalgia. Taking cues from Joni Mitchell, Carol King and Sarah Slean, there are many light-hearted moments, but this is clearly a very honest offering.
